Jaguar D. Saul
One Piece is a story of pirates, powers, training, and the danger of the open sea! For every honorable warrior of the sea, there are tens, even hundreds of bad fights that brave the seas of this anime. The main character of One Piece is Monkey D. Luffy, who starts off as a 17 year old who ventures out to the open sea to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors but most notably the pirate Red Hair Shanks who gave up his arm to save Luffy from a shark when Luffy was about 7 years old.
Later in the story there is Nico Robin at the age of about 8, who, long story short (to avoid unnecessary spoilers just in case you want to watch the arc yourself), lived on an island of smart people who knew too much about the One Piece world and drew the attention of the World Government who wanted to cover a secret that could spell disaster if it fell into the hands of the wrong person. In the end, Robin was a wanted criminal for running away from the world government marines that were hunting down her family and friends for their secrets and treasure (which happened to be books containing valuable knowledge).
I don't want to go into all of the details because I want you the reader, to experience the story by watching the anime. However in summary Jaguar D. Saul was a marine captain who was seeking a safe place to hide on the same island as Robin's homeland. He made friends with Robin who was missing her mother who was always traveling the Grand Line. Jaguar taught Robin how to laugh and have fun. In the end, Jaguar gave his life to help Robin escape from persecution and danger.
Jaguar was always looking at the brighter side of life, though being a giant. He was a little bit smaller than the other giants of One Piece however. He found his own happiness in friendship. Maybe Jaguar felt alone since he was without his Nakama, or treasured friends and comrades.
Jaguar also had the Will of D. which in One Piece was a symbol of pirate conviction that pirates were given when they were born with the letter D. as their middle name. Jaguar's will was for Robin to be happy and it meant more to him than the Grand Line and his life as a soldier.
Some of Jaguar's signature quotes are:
I too believe that no person is born into this world to be alone! If you're reading this and you're hopeful like me, go out and make a friend or let your friends how much you care for them. Be like Jaguar D. Saul today and remember it takes all kinds of characters and people plus their friends to make this world! I will end this post with a haiku for all the dreamers out there!
